Mary Ruddick, BA, CNC

Certified Nutritional Counselor, Grain-free Baker and Chef, and Certified Yoga Instructor

Having struggled with a debilitating neuromuscular condition for over a decade, I know first hand what it takes to bring impossible conditions into remission.  After experiencing how powerful nutrition was in my own healing journey, I decided to make a career out of guiding people to better wellness.  These concepts are lacking in current conventional wisdom, and I adore bringing them into the limelight!  It is my experience that a properly prepared, nutrient-dense diet full of whole, nourishing foods can help restore health and vitality. I can help you discover your food sensitivities using an elimination diet, optimize digestion, reduce inflammation and edema and achieve better blood sugar regulation, as well as pinpoint and correct nutritional imbalances. Instead of offering a one-size-fits-all program, I develop a unique plan that is customized to your individual biology and needs.  Having walked the path of illness to wellness myself, I hope to use my practice to validate your experiences and be a sincere guide as you work toward transformation.

"I suffered from GERD for many years and had become frustrated that the medications did not completely alleviate the symptoms, but brought about other side effects.  My bone density continued to decrease even with high doses of vitamin D and calcium and lots of weight bearing exercise.  Endoscopies showed segments of Barret's Esophogus that just never seemed to improve.    I had been taking Nexium each morning, one Prilosec each morning and one each night.  I still had episodes of GERD at night rather often, but not as severe as without the drugs.  After discussing my GERD symptoms with Mary, I decided to follow her advice.  I consulted my gastroenterologist about attempting to decrease my medications and using Mary's suggestions.  He was fine with this as long as I did it slowly and went back on the drugs if necessary.  Per Mary's suggsetions, I increased my folic acid, took two rounds of (orange peel based heart burn blocker) and started taking Malic Acid, digestive enzymes, and probiotics.  I was soon off the Nexium and found the bloating I had experienced for so long I assumed it was normal went away.  I slowly began reducing my Prilosec and was ultimately able to stop that as well.  I feel I digest food quicker and feel better in general.  On occasion, I use about 1 teaspoon of Mylanta, or chew a papaya enzyme tablet if I experience any symptoms at night.  If I eat particularly spicy or acidic foods, I chew a few deglycyrrhizinated licorice tablets (I really like the German Chocolate flavor) to increase the mucus in my esophogus .  I'm scheduled to have a bone density scan and an endoscopy within the near future and I'm anxious to compare the results to those tests done previously."
